For Christians marriage is as old as humanity and the Holy Bible begins with the creation of the first man, Adam, who was given the companion Eve to prevent him from becoming lonely. Between the past and present and between different communities the approach towards marriage has varied greatly. Not long ago the idea of divorce was almost unthinkable, and among many religions was considered a sin. In the contemporary world these views have become more lax and flexible towards the binding nature of marriage.
